Silver Lining

I met you on the Jesus green

I talked too quick, you talked too mean

When we said goodbye we said quickly, said it fast

I didn’t turn to watch you as you walked into my past

We both know time is lonely, we both know time is harsh

I said I could've loved you that night in the bar

I met you in that nighttime groove

Kids dance like they got nothing to lose

I was kissing someone in the basement on the floor

And you were upstairs wishing that you could have said more

We both know nights are easier than facin' it in day

I said I could've loved you every single way

Maybe one day if I tried

Let the silver lining shine

I’d be your plan

Maybe in the summertime

With that hazy kinda sky

I’d be your man

We’d rattle bones, throw open all the shades

Let the light into this place

For you and me

At least that’s how I wanna be

We met for lunch and nothing else

I know that green eye shine so well

I knew I couldn’t kiss you and you saw me think it through

Put your head in my lap as we watched the sky turn blue

You stopped, turned, leaned in, waited for a breath

You kissed me, but there was no time left

We said our goodbyes on the road

Before I packed and headed home

The sun was fading in the sky

You couldn’t look me in the eye

Maybe one day if we try

Let our silver lining shine

Maybe in the summertime

I'd be your guy
