Like The Others

She goes to bed at 1am

And holds her eyelids shut

The moonbeams in her blood stream

Keep on pumpin'

They keep her up

The plants she bought died over the summer

Her friends don’t get why she misses her mother

She bites her nails and she stays so small

But every time she says my name

Every time she looks my way, I fall

So why can’t this be easily smothered

Why can’t you be hard to love like the others

She gets high once in a while

By smoking nights, sittin' on her car

She tells me there’s a world out there

But it’s so hard to miss out on the stars

Every time we pass that highway sign

I can see it in her eyes

Every time she says goodbye

My heartbeat falls a little more behind

This won’t be easily smothered

You won’t be hard to love like the others
